This is my first Homeschool Hop. Welcome--and I'm a little nervous as I join in on the fun and fellowship!
Every spring my daughter and I make a nesting ball for the birds. It's fun to see if they'll come and use the materials.
Here's what we do--it's simple and an activity everyone in the family can enjoy.
We get the most entertainment fun trying to catch a glimpse of a bird grabbing some of the goodies for their nest.

1. Gather a netting bag (we use one from a bag of lemons), a variety of nesting materials: dryer lint, small pieces of yarn or string, twigs, moss, dried leaves, pine straw, and anything you think would be just right for building a nest.
Also gather a piece of string or yarn to make a hanger and a stick that will be used as a perch.
2. Start stuffing the bag anyway you want. Just have fun!''
'
4. When the bag is 2
/3 to 3/4 full, tie it off. Use a piece of string to make a hanger. Then fashion a perch by poking a stick through the bag from one side to the other.
We have a titmouse building a nest in this little tree/bush, but unfortunately . . . .

We also have 2 of these at our house. So, we spend a lot of time shooooing them away from the front porch and other popular bird spots.

My boys will be delighted to make a nesting bag of our own! We'll update you if we have some fun discoveries! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea. My kids have all developed a love of birding because of my mom and dad. I'm totally suggesting this to my mom to share with the kids!
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed day!

This is a fun and neat idea! Thank you for sharing it.
ReplyDeleteI'm stopping by from the HHH! Welcome, and happy 'hopping' as you get to know some wonderful fellow homeschool blogger moms :-).
Welcome to the HHH! What a fun activity making a nesting bag. We'll have to try it.
ReplyDeleteJoining you from the Hop! I love watching birds. Unfortunately our new neighborhood is a little short on trees! I love this idea of tying the stuff all together so you can watch the birds come by. I'll keep it in mind for when our trees grow up! Thanks for sharing.
